Vocational Expertise: The Olympics
Making the Games is a new project designed for teenagers and as a resource for teachers. The site aims to inspire young people to think differently about their careers and features individuals who have taken practical and vocational learning routes and are now helping to deliver the London 2012 Games. There is a teachers’ section with ideas for using the site’s resources in the classroom.
One of the biggest difficulties in A Level teaching is knowing whether your activity has been pitched at a sufficiently challenging level for your students. Villiers Park Educational Trust has in part answered the need for sufficient challenge through a series of online extension activities that provide students with an opportunity to carry out independent research.
Over the course of the two years of A Level Study, leading academics will pose tasks of increasing difficulty for students. Each task is accompanied with an introductory film and suggested areas for further research and students are then encouraged to explore the tasks. At the end of the half term study period the academic returns to deliver a suggested response and areas for further exploration. New tasks are posted each half term so each cohort will have access to twelve different and stimulating tasks.
Use them as an additional activity or as an intrinsic part of your teaching and learning. With suggested activities within the subjects of Art, Biology, Chemistry, Economics, English Literature, French, Geography, German, History, Law, Maths, Media, Philosophy, Physics, Psychology, Religion and Theatre Studies there should be someting for most students.
